"Places"
fragment of 'Nuremberg' painting, 2024
"(…) human time is divided into stages just as movement in space is divided by pauses – places. (…) These pauses anchor us in the passage of time. (…) The more pauses there are in space, and therefore the more places we experience, the faster time passes in our subjective perception”
Olga Tokarczuk
The 'Places' exhibition is my journey through time and space. The title places are a form of expanding diary in which, through images, we come into contact with local culture, beliefs and stories of the people that I visited in the near or distant past. Each painting was preceded by the history of the place, a story proving its extraordinary essence, which I presented in an abstract and symbolic visual language. In my works, I focused on places shrouded in mysticism, where the past intertwines with the present. The latest paintings are dedicated to Nuremberg and its connections with Poland.
